Which tire to prevent curb rash?
Ok really attempting to purchase some new wheels this week. HPR5s 18x8 up front and 18x9 in the rear. Which width tire should I go with. I could get a package with 225 up front and 265 in the rear. I always liked the look of the tire past the lip of the wheel a little (also helps prevent curb rash if the unfortunate would come up). Would a 265 offer this or will it be pretty much flush with with the wheel face? i would imagine the 225 would be small seeing how the stockers come with 245. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE AWSOME!!
heres a pic of my stockers now. I want the tire to be past the wheel lip a little like pictured. i hope you can make sense of my rambling. Im an idiot when it comes to tires.

a 275/50/18 would be HUGE. At least 2 inches taller than stock. Did you mean a 275/35?
But about the rash, yeah not hitting the curb is your best bet! If you come in hard, no tire is really going to save you. But most tires now have rim guards built in, just some are more prominent than others. As far as the tires... Id say a 245/40/18 would probably be a good size to go with on the fronts. But im sure some more experienced people can better help you.

i've done some curb checking and the protector helps to lessen the damage.

yeah, it really depends on the specific tire as to how much material there is for the curb protection.
i have the GS D3's, and the curb protector feature on them looks like it would almost completely (if not completely) keep you from damaging the lip of the wheel....but then, it also depends on how you hit it, as well as how hard you hit it.
on the GS D3's, the curb protector looks like it stick out past the edge of the wheel by about 1/8" at the least.

id go 275/40's but dude seriously go with a 10.5 wide...you will regret it. Our cars need a nice size tire in the back. I hate myself for not going with at least a 10.5, and inch makes a big difference!
