2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray Vs. 2013 SRT Viper Coupe: Track Tested

By -

Even though the 640 HP 2013 SRT Viper costs almost twice as much as the 2014 Corvette Stingray, Edmunds decided to pit the two against each other for some friendly competition. Lets just say, the more affordable and less powerful Corvette held its own… By whooping the Viper in every category except for acceleration.

While the Viper knocked down a best 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds to the Corvette’s 4.1 and also took home the quarter-mile victory with a best pass of 11.7 @ 124 to the Corvette’s 12.3 @ 114, in EVERY other performance category the Stingray cleaned house! How about 60-0 stopping distances of 99-feet to the Viper’s 110-foot achievement? Or the lateral Gs of 1.05 to the Viper’s 1.01? If that’s not enough, the Stingray also took the Viper’s 72 MPH slalom speed and pushed it to 73.5 MPH all while giving tons more feedback.

Sure, we would have liked to see the Vette smoke the Viper in the acceleration tests, but lets face it, this is a base Vette that costs half as much as the Viper. We can only wait to see what kind of hurting the upcoming higher performance Vette models will put on the Viper. It’s only getting better from here and with this kind of performance out of the base Vette, it’s going to be good.
