GM Recalling 2016 Camaros Because of Safety Standards

This is about as minute as a recall can get, but it’s a recall nonetheless.

Some 2016 Chevrolet Camaros, along with 2016 Chevrolet Malibus, 2016 Chevrolet Silerverados, and GMC Sierras are having some issues with that super annoying noise that rings off when you don’t buckle your seatbelt. That noise is supposed to go off when the keys are in, and you either open the door or don’t buckle up. Apparently some radios are not fulfilling their programmed duties, and that breaks Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) numbers 114, “Theft Protection”, and/or 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

Although it crosses four different vehicles, General Motors believes only 139 cars and trucks are actually affected. If your vehicle falls under this net, General Motors is on it and will alert you to come into the shop and get your radio software updated for free. There’s no announced timetable for when this will happen, but as long as you’re a smart person and wear your seat belt and keep your doors closed while driving, you should be fine.
