‘Base Model’ 2020 Corvette to Be the Rarest C8 of them All
Though there are plenty of C8 Corvettes currently for sale, none of them seem to be an ‘as-delivered’ base model sans options.
One of the major selling points for the new 2020 Corvette Stingray is how cheap it is. Rather, how cheap it starts out. If you order an absolute base model coupe, the MSRP is $59,995. It seems, though, that nobody wanted to order one without options. And now, nobody will be able to order 2020 anything, period.
Our sister site Cars Direct has been searching for one for sale, and it’s starting to look like none were even made. With all the options, a C8 Corvette quickly soars over the $100,000 mark. That doesn’t seem to have scared anyone off, though. From what can be found at dealers right now, nobody seems to have a real base model up for grabs—making it hard for those on a budget who didn’t get their orders in to have any sort of chance at scooping a 2020 Corvette up.
Markups Make the World Go ’round
Carsdirect did some detective work and found that there are currently 291 C8 Corvettes for sale on Autotrader. The cheapest one is a 2LT coupe located in Florida for $67,295, and the priciest one is a 3LT Arctic White coupe in Scottsdale, Arizona, that carries a hefty $112,600 price tag.
Even if you could find a full-blown base model, there is a very slim chance it would go for the MSRP. Dealers are not afraid of markups as many cars have taught us in the past, and the C8 is no exception. What is remarkable, though, is that consumers are also unafraid of markups. Carsdirect brought to our attention an Ebay listing for a 2020 Corvette 1LT Coupe. While it does have a couple of options, it’s MSRP is $66,990. It has magnetic ride suspension, battery protection, and the Z51 performance package as options. Remarkably, the car sold recently for $82,600. That dealership had a good day because that is a whopping $15,610 over MSRP. For a vehicle that doesn’t have many options, that is pretty insane.
Basically, if you had any intent to score a 2020 Corvette for base MSRP, you’re out of luck. Especially since you can no longer order one. If you happen to run across someone with a true base model C8, you may want to congratulate them. They are driving a very rare car, albeit a bit ironic.
