BUILDUP An Amazing 1970 Chevelle Malibu Build

Apparently classic Chevrolet muscle is so good that even Lexus fans love it. An amazing build has been started not here on LS1Tech, but instead over on the Club Lexus forums.

The project is a 1970 Chevelle Malibu, and according to owner Atomic350F, the car “is easily the most fun [they] have ever had behind the wheel.” We’d be quick to agree to that statement, especially when compared to a rather mundane Lexus.

Atomic350F has owned the classic beauty for ten years, and over time has added tubular control arms, adjustable coilovers, Baer 14″ brakes, and 18″ wheels wrapped with 275 (front) and 305 (rear) tires.

According to Atomic350F, the car runs and handles like a modern machine (though we’re sure it sounds much, much meaner).

Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop with the modifications. At this moment Atomic350F is in the process of an entire engine and transmission swap in order to more dramatically increase the performance of the beast.

He will be dropping in an L92 from a 2008 Escalade that has been built up with a camshaft, headers, an ECM tune, and an intake manifold. The original throttle body will stay on the car.

With the ECM tune, the engine ought to produce in the range of 545 horsepower. He will also be dropping a few hundred pounds off the front and shifting the engine and transmission closer toward the center of the vehicle. The transmission will be a Keisler 5-speed with overdrive.

When complete, this Chevelle ought to produce a completely new driving experience. Go check out Atomic350F’s build thread, even if for no more than pure appreciation!
