C7 Corvette vs C8 Corvette

When the LT1 and LT2 powerplants face off, we all win. Now turn it up and decide which V8-powered Corvette gives better rev.

How to do we truly compare two cars that stand incomparable? Well, we really don’t. Because all drivers are different. When it comes to what we like in a ride, it varies between enthusiasts because desired ride quality itself varies. All the stats and specs only go so far. In the end, what draws us to a car is often extremely visceral. One element that very much effects our instincts is sound. A good exhaust note can turn our heads so fast we get whiplash. And when it comes to Corvette, it is one of the best sounding sports cars period.

But which Corvette really delivers the roar you prefer, the C7 Corvette or the C8 Corvette?

C7 Corvette vs C8 Corvette

The C7-generation of Corvettes was produced from 2014-2019. While the C8 Corvette made its huge debut for 2020.

For this test, each Corvette Stingray has a 6.2-liter V8. Both are naturally aspirated pushrod V8s with 6.2 liters of displacement . However, the C7 houses an LT1 and the C8 has an LT2.

How does the LT1 and the LT2 affect the performance? As you might imagine, LT2 was developed and modified from the LT1 to accommodate the mid-engined C8. Chevy aimed to make the LT2 breathe well, and made the LT2 intake manifold bigger at 14.1 liters compared to the LT1’s 11.1 liters. Other upgrades to the LT2 include a improvements to the engine-mounted dry-sump system, cooler, filter, oil pressure at higher Gs, and efficiency.

But the LT1 is also a purpose-built powertrain inspired by Chevy’s own racing program. The LT1, aka the beast behind the Camaro, made the LS7 legendary. It remains of of the most advanced engines ever produced, offers an extraordinary sump, and uses electric technology such as power steering.

Numbers and stats are important, but really it comes down to the gut feeling.

AWE Tuning put the two to the test in their latest RevOff video. Both the C7 Corvette Stingray and C8 Corvette Stingray are equipped with AWE’s  Touring Edition Exhausts.

Which exhaust note do you prefer? The C7 LT1 Corvette, or the C8 LT2 Corvette? Let us know!
