Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Supercharged V8 Fuel Economy Ratings EPA

Cadillac’s almighty supercharged V8 CT5-V sedan got its official EPA fuel economy ratings recently. They’re not as bad as one might think.

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is not for the faint of heart. Under the hood lies a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 that cranks out a breathtaking 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac advertises a 0-60 speed of just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of over 200 miles per hour. Additionally, it is available with a ten-speed automatic transmission and, yes, a six-speed manual. If you’re a car enthusiast and don’t get excited about this car, you may want to check your pulse. However, given the almighty performance of the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, you might wonder who exactly is concerned about fuel economy figures.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), that’s who. Furthermore, just because you have this kind of power doesn’t mean you need to use it, right? Therefore, future buyers must be curious about what kind of fuel economy they’d get daily driving one. Luckily, we now have an answer.

GM Authority brought to our attention that the EPA has spoken. Official fuel economy numbers for the luxurious and lethal CT5-V Blackwing sedan are here. They’re not quite as bad as one might think! So, let’s take a look at the ratings with each transmission offered.

Fuel Economy Still Based on Your Right Foot

Up first is the hotly-anticipated six-speed manual transmission. The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing with a manual transmission sees EPA ratings of 13 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. This gives it a combined rating of 15 mpg. So, as one would expect, driving it around town is not the most economical. However, taking one on a road trip won’t burn you in the wallet quite as much as one might have expected.

The story gets slightly better when loaded with the optional ten-speed automatic transmission. While the city fuel economy rating stays at 13 mpg, the highway number gets bumped up to 22 mpg. Therefore, the combined rating for the eight-speed models jumps to a total of 16 mpg. From our perspective, the pure fun of driving a manual transmission is worth the sacrifice of that one mile-per-gallon up top. To each their own, as they say.

Let’s be real here. We are perfectly aware that a modern automatic transmission like the GM ten-speed could have the slowest shift of its career and still shift faster than the hands of any human. Pick your favorite racing driver, mixed martial artist, and whoever else. Nobody is faster. We get that, but we still love and appreciate the joy that is driving a car with a manual transmission. We digress; the automatic is faster and better on fuel. Certainly, we wouldn’t complain behind the wheel of one.

Ultimate in Practicality & Performance.

If you’re willing to eat the cost of fuel, the CT5-V is a remarkable car that blends insane power, the practicality of a four-door sedan, luxurious interior. Moreover, it costs a good bit less than its competition. For example, the Audi RS7 sedan comes with over 70 less horsepower and has a base price of $114,000. Meanwhile, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing starts at $84,990 for manual-equipped models and $88,165 for automatics.
