Camaro GT1 race car has competition pedigree, and one hell of a price tag.

Based on a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro, this SCCA GT1 race car can be yours, if you act quickly on Bring A Trailer.

Here are the headline features: this GT1 is packing a 358 cubic-inch Chevy V8, which makes a healthy 800 naturally-aspirated horsepower, and 600 lb-ft of torque. Bolted up to that monster motor is a Jericho 5-speed manual transmission, which sends that drive back to a custom Ford 9-inch rear end.

The powdercoated tube frame chassis, which was refreshed in 2010, features top of the line Penske racing shocks, and Brembo brakes at all four corners. That suspension, and those brakes are tucked behind some massive period-correct aluminum racing wheels and equally massive Hoosier racing slicks. If you happen to bend one of those fancy wheels, it’s no problem. This car comes with three sets of them.

Astute viewers will recognize that something is a bit off about this ’89 Camaro. At some point in the car’s career, it has been rebodied to more closely look like a fourth-gen F-Body. And then there’s the aerodynamic upgrades, of which this has many. Just like the top shelf chassis tweaks, this Camaro GT1 is rocking a monster air dam, with matching canards up front, a vented clamshell hood, and an enormous adjustable rear wing.

It’s a whole lot of car, especially for the money. At the time of this writing, bidding is down to just five hours remaining. That said, the current bid is a mere $17,250. Few cars at the local track day will keep up with this GT1, at any price point. Fire up your credit card, and head over to Bring A Trailer, it’s winning season.
