Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R

Pratt & Miller will take orders on Camaro racing car beginning January 2018 starting for $259,000.

Just days ago, the first racing 2017 Chevy Camaro GT4.R wrapped up a championship in its inaugural season. Now, the car’s builders are taking orders on customer cars for the first time.

Lawson Aschenbach drove the Blackdog Speed Shop Camaro GT4.R to the driver’s and manufacturer’s title in Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS class. That wrapped up a consistent season for the Chicago-based racing team. Aschenbach seldom finished off the podium and capped the season with a win at Sonoma Raceway.

Chevy specialists Pratt & Miller Engineering built both of Blackdog’s Camaros, as well as the one raced by Stevenson Motorsports. All of those were partner programs designed to launch the car. But now, Pratt & Miller sell you one of the SRO GT4-homologation Chevys to go racing.

The GT4.R uses Camaro ZL1 bodywork along with 1LE-inspired aerodynamic gains to improve performance. However, the car uses a GT4-spec wing to increase downforce. Other handling upgrades include adjustable suspension (dampers and sway bars), serious-business Brembo brakes, and basically a full barrage of race car parts.

Unlike the ZL1, however, the GT4.R uses a non-supercharged LT1 V8. That comes with a custom camshaft, intake, ECU, and dry-sump system. The peak power is 480 horsepower and if that seems low, the sanctioning bodies try to balance power among cars in the GT4 class. Any more horsepower than 500 would be a complete waste. If Pratt & Miller designed it to be capable of 480, then that’s probably the right number.

The car will be eligible to race in any GT4-homologated series. That means Pirelli World Challenge, IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, British GT, Australian GT GT4 European Series (North and South), VLN Nurburgring Endurance Series, Hankook 24H Series, and a whole pile of other series.

Pratt & Miller lists the starting price at $259,000, which leans toward the high end of the GT4 spectrum. However, Pratt & Miller’s reputation precedes them. They’ve won the 24 Hours of Le Mans multiple times in their class with Corvette Racing and have produced championship-winning cars in many classes for nearly 30 years.
