Chevrolet Corvette Is the UK’s Favorite, Most Imported Car

RHD C8 Chevrolet Corvette

UK buyers have imported more Chevrolet Corvette models into the country than any other car from around the globe.

The Chevrolet Corvette has always been a uniquely American entity, since its inception. But now the C8 Corvette has gone truly global for the first time, as GM has decided to produce a right-hand-drive version of its iconic sports car. The first RHD C8 Corvette just landed in Japan, but folks in the UK will have to wait until October to purchase one. Regardless, that apparently hasn’t stopped a lot of British citizens from going through the trouble of importing one into the country.

New research from Bristol Street Motors shows that the Chevrolet Corvette is the UK’s favorite imported car, with a grand total of 1,409 currently registered in the country. It’s an interesting revelation, but not a terribly surprising one. After all, the Corvette’s appeal has always been broad, it’s just that GM never considered it financially viable to build a RHD version for markets like the UK until now.

Judging by these numbers, it seems like the C8 will enjoy heavy interest when it launches in the UK this coming fall. As most already know, importing a vehicle into almost any country is a difficult, expensive, and time-consuming task. The fact that so many people have bothered to go through this process to obtain a Corvette in the UK means that they deemed the car worthy of the hassle.

What’s also particularly interesting about this list are the other vehicles present on it. It seems that Brits are far less interested in big trucks and muscle cars than their American counterparts, as just 149 Camaros, 9 Dodge Hellcat models, 5 Dodge Chargers, and 4 Ford F-150 Raptors are currently registered in the country. A total of 119 folks opted for Cadillac CTS, however.

Knowing this, it will certainly be interesting to see how many Corvettes GM sells in the UK once the RHD version arrives later this year. We imagine that the limited number it ships overseas will be scooped up rather quickly, but once the supply/demand curve levels off as it has in the U.S. somewhat, the C8 figures to remain a popular choice among fun-seeking UK car shoppers.
