When most people think of muscle cars, they think of big, lumbery, heavy V8 powered behemoths that make more smoke and noise than actual power. They think of cars that plow through turns, rather than slicing through them with ease. Chevy aims to flip that conception with one of the company’s SEMA cars this year.

Using a 1967 Chevy Nova as a platform, instead of sticking an LT1 or and LS based engine into the front of the car, Chevy dropped in the company’s latest 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder crate motor. The new engine brings 272 horsepower, which is just 3 horsepower off the original’s V8, and has all the fun things you’d expect in a modern car.

The lighter engine also gives the Nova a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. It also has adjustable air-suspension, custom rims, and four-wheel disc brakes. It’s perfectly ready to hit the canyons or your local autocross. But what do you all make of Chevy offering a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder crate engine? Is this the way of the future? Or would you prefer the V8’s of the past?
