High Mileage LS Cars. Do You Have 100K Or More Miles?

By -

Without a doubt, GM carved a spot for itself in hot rodding history when it released the LS series of motors. While their performance potential and affordability definitely top the list of attributes, their extreme durability captures a close third. What do we mean by durability, well it’s a given that the blocks are beyond stout with several LS blocks sporting a proven track record of 1000+ hp, but that’s not what we mean my durable. Instead, we’re talking about the longevity of the LS motors and how many examples have survived hundreds of thousands of trouble-free miles, many of which were at wide-open throttle (WOT)!
The iron block LS motors found in the trucks have proven reliable even over 400,000 miles (just check PerformanceTrucks.net for proof), which set me on a search for high mileage LS motors here on Tech. With that said, check out this thread with plenty of high rollers (https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-lsx-automobile-discussion/645337-official-odometer-mileage-thread.html). While we were at it we selected a few members that had killer cars with over 100,000 miles on the clock.
As for the noteworthy LS1Tech members, have a look at oChristiano and his 2000 Camaro SS with 150K miles. It’s a high-mileage hauler that’s driven daily and ran hard whenever possible. Since it’s Christian’s daily driver he’s kept the mods on the lighter side with an LS6 intake manifold, TSP long tubes and y-pipe under the hood. As for corner carving, you’ll find an SLP strut-tower brace and LCAs paired with Vogtland springs, Koni DA shocks and RPM 505 wheels.

The second car is member BOBS99SS with over 150K miles on the clock, it’s proof even the high rollers can still be clean.

Lastly we touch on 98BLOWNZ28’s ’98 Camaro Z28 that’s got nearly 180K miles on the clock, 50K of which were with the Vortech blower. It still sports the stock longblock and is force-fed 8 psi of boost from a Vortech G-trim blower accompanied by a custom front-mount intercooler, Tial BOV, 42-pound injectors, Pacesetter long-tubes, a TSP y-pipe and Magnaflow cat-back. The combo was tuned by Ryan at CMS (http://www.cunningham-motorsports.com/) where it made 459 hp and 452 lbft at the tires. Rumor has it Sean will finally be replacing the stock motor with a built LS2, which will be bittersweet since the stock LS1 is still running strong. Alas, the pursuit of more power is an evil addiction.

So how about you, how many miles are on your LS motor? Post your odometer readings and lets see who takes the cake.
