Holden Maloo Ute LS9 Corvette ZR1 C6 Engine Sells For $804,000

Holden Maloo Ute becomes the most expensive Australian car ever sold at auction as it and its accompanying sedan sell ferociously deep into the six-figure range.

We love Holden. Frankly, we can’t see a single reason any GM fan wouldn’t want one of these things. It’s got all the spirit of an El Camino with all the modern tech of a twenty-first-century car. The fact that they came loaded with an LS under the hood is really the icing on the rubber roasting cake. Though 2021 officially marks the end of Holden, it remains very clear that the brand loyalists and lovers will hold on tight for the foreseeable future. That is especially true to the brand’s home market in Australia. So true; in fact, they are fetching numbers at auction that will make your heart stop for a moment.

The Drive had us rubbing our eyes to make sure we were reading these numbers correctly in their recent article covering the subject. Both cars sold at Australian based Lloyd’s Auctioneers and Valuers.  We’ll tell you the figures, but we assure you that you’ll want to be sitting down before you read them.

Holden HSV GTSR W1 Maloo Ute One of Four In The World LS9 Supercharged Manual

Calling it rare almost doesn’t do this ute justice.

It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t just some run of the mill Holden Ute you’d see cruising around. This is a 2017 HSV GTSR W1 Maloo, and there are only four in the world. What makes it so special? We’re glad you asked. It has the same supercharged LS9 as a C6 Corvette ZR1. It makes 635 horsepower and pushes it to the ground through a six-speed manual transmission. Make no mistake; this thing is a force to be reckoned with. Additionally, it only has 682 kilometers on it, which is less than 450 miles. What does all that power and exclusivity translate to financially, though? Please be seated.

It sold for $804,000. No, that is not a typing mistake. This beautiful orange warrior slapped the three-quarter of a million-dollar mark right in the face and kept going. We can read the number over and over. Yet, it still keeps blowing our minds. Do keep in mind, though, we’ve got another car to show you.

2017 Holden VF Series II SSV Redline Final Car Ever Produced In Australia

Last call for Holden Australia.

While the second eye-watering number did not come from a ute, it did come from another LS carrying Holden. This one, too, is a lot more than it looks on the surface. This is a 2017 Holden VF Series II SSV Redline with only 102 kilometers (about 64 miles) on the clock. It runs deeper than that, though. This is the final Holden ever produced at the Australia plant. They even open the auction lot listing by stating that it is the final body ever framed, final VIN ever stamped, final body ever painted. That’s it. This is the final car ever produced by Holden Australia. Naturally, then, you can assume it also sold for a whopper of a price.

You’d be correct in that assumption. It sold for $570,000. Again, a number that we just can’t quite seem to wrap our heads around properly.

Both of these cars are an iconic part of the brand’s history. We hope that they go on to continue being loved and preserved. As usual, though, we hope somebody takes them out for the occasional drive. Though, that may be wishful thinking in the case of these cars. You’re not likely to see them chucking fat skids at Summernats.
