Internet Outrage Forces Dealer To Sell Z06 At MSRP Instead Of Crazy Market Adjustment

This just shows that we have enough power to put shady dealerships in their place. Hooray for Z06’s at MSRP!

No one wants to get hosed by a car dealership. But in the current market, and especially for Corvette buyers, dealer markups are just part of the game. Made up “market adjustments” suit a dealer quite well. They just want one guy desperate enough to sign the bottom line, and they get to pocket the extra cash.

Kirby Sims Jr. is just one victim of such a practice. That’s because the dealership, Mac Haik Chevrolet of Houston TX wanted to stack another $90,000 on to the price above MSRP. Sims wasn’t impressed with this tactic, and took to Facebook, posting a picture of the letter he got from the dealer, explaining the new charges. The post went viral very quickly.

The post gathered hundreds of comments and shares before the store’s General Manager sent a message to Sims that they’d be selling the Z06 at MSRP. Strangely, the message was done via Facebook, not an official communication like email or even a phone call. We hope it to be true, but then again, until the paperwork is signed, we don’t know what kind of tricks this dealer will try and pull.

But that brings up another question. How much more would you be willing to fork over for the Z06? Would you get in a bidding war with another buyer for a car coming into inventory? At that point, the dealer has no control over what the price will be. And any price increases would be fair and square.

Even the used car market for Z51 C8’s has been crazy, with folks trying to make a quick buck off of any Corvette they can find. Why not? If you can take a Corvette, and sell it for more than what you paid, thats a steal, right? Which begs another question. If you had a Z06, what kind of offer would you turn down? Would you take $90,000 over MSRP? We have a feeling most of you may agree to a number like that.
