‘LS1Tech’ Forum Member Welcomes Firebird WS6 to Stable
Third-gen Firebird Formula WS6 latest project in one LS1Tech forum member’s garage, plans include lowering & Z06 wheels.
You never know what you’ll find looking through the LS1Tech Forums on any given day. We’ve got plenty of Firebirds, Camaros, Corvettes for sale, and all sorts of LS- and LT-powered projects. And of course, you can find advice and guidance for your build after the purchase. Not to mention the regional forums, the racing-focused forums, and the event forums.
And sometimes, you’ll find a build thread unlike any other. Such is the case with a thread which began with a fourth-gen Pontiac Trans Am WS6. Now, there’s a red Firebird Formula WS6 in the mix.
“I did also happen to come across a deal on a third-gen Formula WS6,” wrote LS1Tech member bjohn. “Couldn’t pass it up. Should make for a great project car.”
The ’91 Firebird Formula only cost him $1,700, though it already looks like a million bucks. As explained in the video’s description, there’s an LB9 TPI 305 V8 up front, stock 10-bolt in the back, and a 700R4 four-speed auto to connect the two. The previous owner had it for 15 years, and had a hard time parting with it.
The Firebird received some care soon after, starting with “some quality time buffing out” the red paint. The owner says he got out 80 percent of the swirl marks from the paint, and also removed the mud and door-ding guards for a cleaner appearance. The side splitters are likely the next to go, as they “take away from the curves of the car.”
Current and future plans for the Firebird include refinishing the T-tops, as well as lowering the ride, and fitting the corners with Corvette Z06 wheels. The front bumper will likely see a trip to the body shop for a new coat of red.
In the meantime, he’s already documenting the build on his YouTube channel, GreenLightFilming. Thus far, he’s fixed up and tested the 305 V8, as well as swapped out the old and dry rubber for a fresh set. We can’t to see how far this red Firebird goes, both on the LS1Tech Forums, and his YouTube channel.
