Meet the Caddy Pickup You’ve Never Heard Of
If you’re a Cadillac fan, we’re sure that you probably think you know all, or at least most, of the models they ever made. Maybe you don’t, but that only means that you’ll likely be the person who is less surprised by this relatively unknown Caddy.
This “unicorn” of the Cadillac world was only produced over a couple of years, and just 204 of these rides were ever built. In fact, they were custom-made by Gene Winfield and then sold at dealerships throughout the country.
For all who are still confused, this amazing ride is a Cadillac Mirage, and it’s a pickup truck!
These rather odd “trucks” were made from the DeVille, and many might even say they’re a bit better than that old car.
According to the video, the bed could fit a full size mattress, four LS engines, a three-wheeler, and much more. As strange as it might seem to some, this is actually a highly functional, comfortable, and original Cadillac that ought to appeal to many.
But what is this “unicorn” powered by then? Try your best not to laugh — this pickup crossbreed is powered by an 8.2L (that’s 500 cubic inches) V8 engine that puts out (wait for it) a whopping 200 horsepower!
Contain your giggles for just a moment though, since despite the low power the vehicle does actually have a pretty large amount of torque; 400 foot-pounds of it, to be exact. And at 4500 pounds of pure American steel, this is definitely not a race car. But a fun daily driver? Absolutely.
The particular Mirage shown is from 1976, and the only unoriginal parts are the wheels, drop spindles, and the window tint. Beyond that, this ride is a stock beauty from the 1970s, and it shows!
With giant “sofa” seats that are extremely comfortable and driver-oriented controls, this Caddy is a winner in many ways. It’s also very big, which fits right in with the American way!
