Australia’s import laws dictate that cars less than 30 years old can only be right hand drive.

That said, it doesn’t stop enterprising owners from importing cars they love into the country and having them converted to RHD

Aussies love their V8’s, but the Corvette is a rare sight in the land down under. Import regulations in Australia state that anything newer than 1987 must be converted to right hand drive, otherwise it won’t be legal for the road. Some American readers will note that it’s a “rolling” 30 year law and not set on a fixed date. This means that eventually some pretty cool cars will be imported into Australia without having the need to be converted.

The folks at 1320 video caught up with this Z06 owner at a drag racing event, and decided to find out more about the C6. Corvette Clinic performs the conversions so that Australian enthusiasts can enjoy cars like the Corvette, and Camaro, which were only produced in left hand drive.

Conversions are one thing, but driving it is a whole other ball game. Old habits are hard to break, and using your left arm for shifting is not as straight forward as it looks.  Getting used to the different driving position takes a few practice rounds, but soon 1320 heads out for their first 1/4 mile run.

Mildly modified and on a non-prepped surface, the first run is 13 seconds flat. John, the owner of the converted Z06 takes the next run. His familiarity with the car allowed him to run a 12.5.
