Oh, yes. It’s time to get excited as the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro approaches launch. We’re starting to hear bits and pieces from some reviewers but it’s a huge improvement over the 2015 model by several long shots.

Here is Road and Track’s take on the 2016 Camaro SS but, not to spoil the story, it’s damn good.

Many had worried that the new 2016 Camaro would be softer or worse when it was announced it would share the chassis of the ATS. Though, that was before we knew how good the ATS was. However, we now know that it is a great thing. First and foremost is that it is lighter.

When compared to the 2015 SS, the 2016 is 223-pounds lighter. That’s a staggering amount of weight and it gets better when you actually go down models as the V6 is now 294-pounds lighter and the turbo-four will be 390-pounds less heft than the base V6.

It’s also far more rigid, again thanks to sharing some of its under-chassis parts with the ATS. “The Camaro no longer feels like a limp, sweaty sock on the road,” Says R&T editor, Zach Bowman, “If there’s flex in this thing, you won’t find it bashing down your favorite twisty. The car’s composed. Sorted. It can carry a surprising amount of speed with exactly zero drama.”
