Texas-based Scoggin-Dickey developing pair of twin-turbos for monster street & street-strip projects.

Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center announced the development of two monster twin-turbo LS crate engine at the 2017 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Indianapolis.

The Texas-based Chevy performance parts company has served as a major provider of Chevy crate engines for years. That has included some drop-in Big Block Chevy racing engines. However, Kurt Urban of Scoggin-Dickey told Power Automedia that the company would be adding LS power to that mix.

The milder engine will be a 400 cubic-inch, twin-turbo LS — likely using an LSX — that makes 1,200 streetable horsepower. Yes, that’s the tame addition to the lineup. The “street-oriented” engine should allow buyers to use it in Pro Touring and other custom-build applications.

However, Scoggin-Dickey also plans to introduce a wilder 2,000-horsepower version of the engine for radical applications. Urban confirmed exactly what sprung to mind in our heads at that mention: Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week. If available soon, we’d expect to see a racer or two give this powerplant a whirl at the famed magazine’s street-strip torture test.

Since the engines are still in development, Urban couldn’t quote a price. The SDPC Raceshop does currently offer a ProCharged 540 cubic-inch Big Block Chevy with a $50,000 price tag. We don’t know exactly how the “Drag Week engine” would cost relative to that, but we’ll wager on a hefty five-figure price tag.

We find it interesting for a major company to eye a niche event like Drag Week or Rocky Mountain Race Week. Tire manufacturers have exhibited that, to some extent, in recent years. They’ve catered to low-dollar endurance racing and SCCA autocross rules that mandate a 190- or 200-treadwear tire. However, the interest of a major engine supplier’s speed-shop arm in something like Drag Week speaks to the popularity of extreme street cars.
