This wild GMC Sierra looks like grandpa’s truck, but underneath, it’s a truly sinister machine.

Trucks have become incredibly popular among the drag racing crowd, a phenomenon that didn’t always exist. After all, trucks are big, heavy, and shaped like bricks, which is precisely what you don’t want when you’re trying to build something incredibly quick. However, if you throw enough power at that brick, it will be fast regardless, and that’s precisely the case with this truly insane 2017 GMC Sierra built by the folks at Nelson Racing Engines.

On the outside, this GMC Sierra looks just like something your grandfather might drive – a clean, red, regular cab, short bed pickup with lots of chrome and modest wheels and tires. Heck, even the interior is nothing more than a bone stock cabin with basic threads. There are quite literally zero clues as to what’s going on underneath the hood, which is hysterical when you peek in the engine bay and find one of the most ridiculous engines ever fitted to a road-going pickup.

That powerplant is a 10.3-liter, 632 cubic-inch V8 force fed by two 88-millimeter NRE Mirror Image turbos, which in and of itself is a true work of art. The mammoth motor is so large, however, that it still clearly took some effort to shoehorn in the truck’s quite expansive engine bay, which also necessitated that the turbos be mounted behind the front bumper. What’s particularly impressive, however, is that this truck retains all of its cushy amenities such as air conditioning and factory instrumentation.

That monster motor is mated to the tried-and-true TH400 gearbox pieced together by Rossler Transmissions, which sends a whopping 2,500 horsepower back to a 9-inch rear end that’s also built to the hilt. The result of that combination is a truly wicked pickup that’s equally adept at slaying the competition on the track and cruising around town running errands, which makes it pretty darn amazing in our book. Throw in the fact that it looks like the average grandpa truck no one would ever give a second look, and that just sends it clearly over the top.
