Hennessey Builds the Final Camaro ZL1 1LE Resurrection

Resurrection

Resurrection puts out 1,200-HP, has a LT5 supercharger, a warranty and a manual transmission.

A Camaro ZL1 1LE is a formidable weapon right from Chevy. However, for the folks at Hennessey Performance, the car is a blank canvas. They have been making cars go faster for 30 years now. The Chevy Camaro is one of their most popular platforms to build from. A couple years ago they launched the 1,000 horsepower Exorcist. It was a land missile designed to put the Dodge Demon back in its box. But even the Exorcist was not extreme enough for Hennessey. That is where the Resurrection comes in. A $200,000, 1,200 horsepower, rocket ship that was limited to only 24 examples. What we have here is number 24.

Hennessey Performance recently posted a video on their YouTube channel of the final Resurrection ever made. Although, with a name like Resurrection, can we really say there will never be another? In any event, Hennessey Technician Jerry Dellaportas takes us through the build process of this Resurrection build. It starts with a brand-new Camaro ZL1 1LE with just over 100 miles on it.

The car then gets a 416 stroker motor with an LT5 supercharger on top. On the dyno this car pushed out over 1,000 horsepower to the wheels. And the best part is all that power is controlled via a manual transmission connected to a triple disc clutch.

416 stroker

The LT5 supercharger uses port fuel injectors, in addition to the high-pressure direct injection fuel injectors. A special computer system is used to control the fuel flow from the three fuel pumps that are used. If you are looking for exceptional gas mileage, this is not the car for you.

Once everything is buttoned up, the car is started for the first time. It sounds as badass as you would expect a 1,200 horsepower Resurrection to sound. A quick stop on the dyno, and then it is time for the best part, the test drive.

Dyno run

The test drive starts with Dellaportas ripping through the first couple gears and hitting about 140 mph. Dellaportas sums it up simply by saying “that’s fast.” That is an understatement. We love that the customer decided to build this car with the manual transmission. It is a shame that this is the final Resurrection to be built. However, the good news is if you can settle for only 1,000 horsepower you can still get the Exorcist.

That might even be the better choice. According to Dellaportas the Resurrection is not quite as good as the Exorcist in the daily driver department. “I think it is a little bit rowdy for the street.” Says Dellaportas of the Resurrection. Honestly, we are not sure who would daily drive either of these cars. But if you do then we can definitely be friends.

The car looks, sounds, and drives amazing. And while it might be a bit much for that daily commute, it is a cohesive overall package that won’t punish you. “It just all works flawlessly. This car drives great. I’ve got my seat cooler on, I’ve got my AC. You know I’ve got everything the car came with.” Says Dellaportas. He also has double the power the car came with.

Sure, it is pricey and now sold out, but even if you do not have one, you must respect it. Watching it come to life is as close as most will ever come to one. But if you do happen to pull up to a light and see a Camaro with Resurrection plastered on the rear quarter panel do yourself a favor. Do not try to beat it to the next light.
