LS motors and oil: What oil and filter do you use?

It’s a highly debated topic and one that gets people talking, but we’re not talking politics or sports. Instead, we’re referring to the hot topic of LS motors and oil: What’s the best oil, filter and change interval for the LS motors? While that’s a tough question to summarize since there are so many different LS motors and each is used in it’s own manner and geographical location, the question of oil and LS motors is something we just had to dabble with.

First there’s weight, do you run a 5w-30, a 10w-30, a 5w-40 or something completely different? Of course you also have your argument against mineral based oils versus synthetics, with semi-synthetic blends also thrown in there…and if you really want to get technical, are you running a true synthetic made from synthetic base stock or a modified mineral based oil that’s been refined and augmented with enough additives to be deemed a synthetic. Truthfully, it’s enough to make your head spin.

But that’s not all, because you still have your filter choices and last but not least, your change intervals. The possibilities are endless, but we wanted to ask you what type of oil you use (brand and type; synthetic, semi-synthetic, mineral based), what weight, oil filter and your change intervals.
Amsoil
As for myself, I run Amsoil 5w-30 in both of my LS vehicles; a Magnacharged RCSB ’03 Silverado with an LM7 and in my bolt-on ’01 Camaro SS. When it comes to oil filters I use either an Amsoil, K&N or a Wix and as far as intervals, I change the oil every 10K or 1 year, whatever happens first. However, I change the oil filter at 5K miles at which I also top-off whatever’s needed. For me it works best, but how about you? What’s your poison(s) of choice?
