1967 Chevrolet Yenko Super Camaro Big Block one of 54 for Sale Barrett-Jackson Side Profile

Fearsome Yenko Super Camaro features a 427 cubic-inch V8, four-speed manual transmission and is only one of 54 ever made.

If you’re a fan of Camaro history, then you’re likely already familiar with the story of Don Yenko. If you’re not, allow us to elaborate. Yenko was a decorated SCCA racing driver whose family owned a Chevrolet dealership. Yenko took to modifying brand new Chevy vehicles and offering them for sale to the public. Among the lineup of his creations were a handful of cars Yenko dubbed the “Super Camaro.” Unfortunately, only 54 of these Super Camaros exist, so a chance to purchase one is extremely rare. However, one is coming up toot sweet!

This incredibly rare icon of Camaro history is going to auction at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale 2022 event. The event takes place from January 22nd to January 30th, and there’s a whole host of incredible cars set to cross the auction block.

The Super Camaro’s Secret is Its Yenko-Tuned Powerplant.

When Yenko Chevrolet first took delivery of this Camaro, it was a standard SS with an L78 396 cubic-inch V8. Which, when paired to the Muncie close-ratio four-speed manual transmission, already made it a rare beast. However, Yenko specifically targeted these vehicles because they are already big-block-ready. That’s because the transformation from an SS to a Super Camaro came from installing the almighty 450 horsepower L72 427 cubic-inch V8 from the Corvette.

Modifications to the engine included special spark plug wires and custom-tuned headers. However, it wasn’t just under-hood changes that made the Super Camaro come to life.

Additionally, the Super Camaro got a custom fiberglass hood with hood pins and 427 emblems. Additionally, it received suspension upgrades, an upgraded engine cooling system, metallic brakes, an upgraded clutch, and a tachometer. Yenko did far more than just shove a bigger engine in these cars. He truly intended to make this a car that could dominate anywhere from the street to the race track.

Incredibly Rare and Sought-After, this Camaro is Sure to Fetch a Massive Hammer Price

The iconic Chevy dealer and racing driver only produced 54 of these Super Camaros in 1967. So, calling it rare is almost an insult. However, this particular one comes with a whole host of paperwork as a cherry on top.

Included in the auction is documentation of its complete restoration and its inclusion in the Yenko Supercar Registry under chassis number YS-725. On top of all this, it includes a letter of authenticity and was even confirmed as authentic by original Yenko mechanic Warren Dernoshek. Finally, it also includes a letter from the original owner and a copy of the original shipping report. Therefore, there is zero doubt as to whether or not this is an Authenitc Yenko original.

Though we can’t say for sure what it might sell for, we undoubtedly can say we’re excited to see what it brings. Moreover, we’re just happy we got to take a close-up look at one of the most iconic Camaros there ever was. Without a doubt, whoever the lucky winner of this Camaro is is going to love their purchase.
