Z06 Powered ’71 Caprice on Donks Puts Down Crazy 1/4 Mile Times

By -

Drag radials at the strip? Nope, the Donkmaster Z06 runs on 28 inch rims.

Generally speaking, at LS1Tech we place emphasis on cars with go rather than show. Fat drag slicks out back might not be flashy, but they get the job done on the strip, which is where all the talking stops. Every once in a while though, something comes across the internet that leaves us bewildered.

Looking entirely out-of-place on this drag strip is a 1971 Caprice convertible on donks. However, the creator’s name, DonkMaster, explains it all. He gets a thrill out of putting big wheels and big turbos on cars through his company In and Out Customs. Upsetting a lot of serious rides in the process just adds to the fun.

In this race, he’s paired up against a Pontiac G8, which we know is a solid chassis for drag racing. Compare that to the Caprice, which has suspension not for hooking up, but rather for getting enough clearance to fit 28 inch rims. And tires that aren’t meant for a dig. And it’s a stick shift car. Power comes from the C6 Z06’s LS7 motor, which is then turbocharged. Estimates on power levels hover around 1,000.

It has to be said that we don’t know much about the prep of the G8 in question, but it obviously gets the launch off the line, but after that, it’s game over as the caprice reels in the Pontiac and puts it away for good.

Even more impressive than the engine is the way the rest of this Caprice is built, as DonkMaster has built this ride beyond just some oversized rims. A complete custom interior contains a C5 dash, custom leather and embroidery on the seats. That custom saddle colored leather extends to the steering wheel, all the way to the trunk where it is draped over a custom-built sub-box.

It all makes the win by this big boat even more impressive.
