Fourth-Gen Camaro SS Beats Down Pair of Fifth-Gen Camaros

By -

The new Camaro is often heralded for being much faster than its predecessors. But when you add some mods…

It’s pretty much common knowledge that out of the box, newer muscle cars are faster than older ones. But they’re also heavier. And as we’ve seen time and time again, you can’t count out proven rides like the fourth-gen Camaro. Even with what is now considered to be an old school engine in the LS1, these things can still be made to run with just about anything. Including a pair of LS3-powered fifth-gen Camaros.

In this Chevy on Chevy crime video from SRfastZ, we get to see exactly that. According to the description, the “old” 6-speed Camaro sports nothing but bolt-ons. But so does its competition, which is a pair of tuned fifth-gens. Purportedly, the red car also had an electronic short on the last two runs. But there’s still more than enough proof here to declare a winner.

The first race kicks off fairly evenly, but the red Camaro jumps out post haste and just runs away with it. The second run proves the same exact result. And even with the aforementioned electrical issue on the second match-up, things are too close for comfort. With that said, you know there’s going to be a rematch!

This time around, our fourth-gen Camaro edges out the fifth-gen on the top end. It’s a much closer race, but still a decisive victory by anyone’s standards. So as we’ve learned time and time again, you can never count out the old guy. Pound for pound, new cars are going to typically come out on top. But adding even basic mods levels the Camaro playing field considerably!
