Default 4L60 or 80's???

ok, ill be converting my 6 speed car to an automatic soon. ive gathered up most all the parts except the trans itself and convertor. But my ? is how many 10 second cars are running 4l60's and have no problems?? Ive had massive amounts of people say they break easy and you should get a 400... For me thats out of the question... itll never happen while i own it.. IMO all trannys break, all you can do is get it built up which i plan to do and hope for the best.. The car will be cam only 236/230 with a tnt 150 shot. I was thinking a 4000 stall. the car has a 4.10 12 bolt and most every suspension mod. would a 4l60 hold up?? are 80's that much better?? The only major future mods i see would be heads.. other than that it will remain stock bottom end untill... yeah we all know what happens eventualy.

Don't spray through the shifts and you'll have a shot at it lasting and still being reliable. I'm still running my stock tranny, I believe this will be it's 5th season being sprayed. If your into doing some weight reduction, that will help out too.

it will reamain factory apperance.. full iinterior, but ive yanked a lil over 100 lbs off the car with more comeing. my n20 is hooked up on a wot switch.. So how is it possible to not spray while the tranny shifts?? the trans will be built.. no way im throwing a stocker in. being in my freinds cpt tranny car, i cant even feel the car shift.

No it's deffinatly not worth throwing a stocker in there since you have to do the conversion. That would just be a waste of time.

You can use a Window Switch to not spray through the shifts. It controls the nitrous with an On RPM and Off RPM. So you can set the start at about 3,000rpm and then set the off about 200rpm before the shift. You should really run one even if you spray through the shifts because if the tranny slips and the car bangs the limiter on the nitrous you can do some serious damage.

Just my $.02 and it is a bit at odds with some of the advice here.

Definitely use a window switch. I would consider even a basic nitrous kit incomplete without one. Set it to shut off the nitrous and extra fuel (assuming wet kit) before your rev limiter but after your shifts. I prefer to spray through the shifts because shutting off the wet kit momentarily during a pass can result in lean spots and that is NOT good.

I don't spray very often, but I have a solidly built 4L60E in my '94 and did spray occasionally and it was always through the shifts. No problems.

I will spray my new setup once I am done dialing it in on motor. I will need to change the plugs to one heat range colder and gap 'em tighter, and then I will open the bottle.

I have all the saftey already.. WOT, window, fuel pressure.... I plan on having the shift point at 6800.. assuming a 4l60 can hold up if built right i will spary all the way through.. If thats to risky should i consider the 4l80?? Beefy drivetrains are good, but id like to get away with a 60 if possible... I dont want to search for more and more power just to feed the drivetrain..

Well, im on my stocker and its doing fine. Im hoping for a high 10second pass on a 160 shot with a 1.5 60ft. Im still amazed my tranny is holding up, anythoughts?

New track times to come next week.

I would not go with a 4L60! You will just be waisting your money. Go with an 80 and you can spray through the shifts and then drive it home

I am running a built 4L60.(by the hubby) A 400 is also out of the question for me cause this is my only car. We were thinking of a 4L80 swap but she is holding up fine with the best of a 1.32 60ft and a 1.451 on the rear tires here is a video.
