also - i wouldn't worry about the weight difference....... if there's any place you WANT weight, it's right over the rear wheels.

You can keep ABS with a 9 inch too, you just have to do a little modding. You can position the sensor on the top of the housing and use the reluctor off a ford f150. If I ever break my stock 10 bolt I will get a 9 inch and do the mod to keep the ABS.

Hers a link to the setup that I like.

You thought you'd break a 9-inch?

If you added up all the horsepower from all the cars you've ever owned, you still wouldn't break a 9 inch.

I have a 9" w/ 35 spline axes and a spool. It's not my daily driver but I drive on the street a good bit. The spool doesn't bother me, it just chatters and shimmys a little bit on tight turns like in parking lots. Also my rear came complete ready to bolt in. The only custom work (if that's what you want to call it) was opening the holes up on a set of 3" exhaust clamps because the axle tubes on the 9" are a little bigger than the 10 bolts.

As the axle is unsprung weight, I'd have thought it would make no difference to traction ??

Weight over the axle is a different matter.

Mines a custom setup, and I'm using a Ford 8.8" axle, with Moser 28 spline axles and a Torsen diff. ( with hindsight, i should have gone 31spline...but it wasnt to be )

So far Im having no issues at all. The 8.8" casing is damn heavy though.

Do a 9" or even better, Strange makes a Dana60 for our cars now. I broke my 12-bolt tons of times. Should have gotten a 9"

1: Broke planetary gears in the posi, took out the ring and pinion
2: Granaded a brand new ring and pinion first time out on the track [no teeth left on the ring gear] Posi was okay
3: Distroyed the posi and ever gear inside, the 3/4" steel pin that goes through the posi split in half. [gears were okay]

If I had to do it again, 9" all the way.

Read what you quoted again. I said that I did not buy the Dana because I thought I would break the 9" or 12-bolt. I bought it because it was cheaper. I never thought I'd break a 9", but it did cross my mind that I might break a 12-bolt.
