Thanks guys, i was very happy with this time. A few weeks later i went to the track again, then with a 3.90 gear ratio, slicks and skinnies, i took a few runs and noticed that the gear ratio was to low, went from 27° - 29° ignition time, hopefully to pick up a few miles !

Then this happened

Broke 2 pistons (5-7) and injured my AFRīs.

Now iīm planning on 383 stroker, 3.42 gear ratio and Tony Mamo will also take my cylinder heads and make them better than new.

Damn that sucks, how high were spinning the motor? How Many miles were on it?

Why go 383? To keep the rebuild cost low?

+1 to everything here.

Always sucks breaking, but you get the chance to build it better and faster.

I was reving around 7000 rpm. Theres only 33k miles on this motor, flycutting the pistons made them weaker for sure. Going with 383 is mainly to keep rebuilding cost low, i live in Iceland and thing like this are redicilously expensive ! If i go with a bigger cube motor, then have to go with bigger cyl. heads and lots of other stuff to. I belive i can get my fullweight Trans Am into 10īs n/a with 383 ci and the right setup.

Makes sense and is what I figured. The nice thing is you'll gain some lowend and mid range torque.

How many miles or passes spinning it that high.

Not so many miles, maybe 10 passes or so, i was loggin with HP tuners, didnīt show any knock, but there was some knock i think causing the pistons to break

Being a low mileage engine meant little/no bore taper. The ring lands butted together with the added heat of lots more power and the timing bump. When they butt together the hyper piston which is brittle breaks off and kills your beautiful combustion chamber. At least it didn't obliterate the piston where the rod could have hammered the middle of the block apart. Now you have a usable block to go 3.905" bore and the 4" arm you'll be in the tens easily !!!!
