I posted this in another thread similar to this.
My base model/flat hood '01 T/A (still own it but it is far from stock now) ran 12.97@108.4 in early 2002 with just OEM 17" Firehawk wheels and 275/40/17 Nitto 555R-II road race tires (not even drag radials and they were up front too).
Here is the original thread about it: https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...-t-nittos.html

just think of how much surface area is there....its restricting the intake quite a bit... i lightly ported the housing too... 1-3hp is 1-3hp.. when you do that 2 or 3 times it adds up...7-8rwhp is good for a mph in the 1/4 on this level....to me, that is a LOT for FREE!

Many times taking the screen out and even removing the divider in the MAF produces gains in stock cars, but as you add other mods, it causes issues. I believe they add power to a stock car by tricking it into running a little leaner.
I will never ever remove one again.

I went 13.06 on slicks with 143k mile motor with only a lid... I wasnt a noob at the track though... Best bang for your buck is gears and a converter... Im still stock motor with a little better gear and a 3200 stall on Nitto DRs.... 12s are pretty easy...

12's should be possible with a good track and driver in a stock 3.42 equipped car. In the early days free mods did work and the guys doing them realized that stacking 2-3hp mods was worth the effort due to the fact that there were not as many tried and proved parts combos in those days and it was a rare individual that would do warranty voiding work on a car they were still making a payment on. Also, keep in mind that parts like suspension bushings etc were "new" in those days. If you car is all stock today the bushings will have some age on them. FTR Evan also was the guy that put the factory C5 Z06 into the 11's. Driver mod is the first place to start.
