Default Cannot break the 13 second curse!

Ok my car has the power and seems to have the power on the street but something about the track i cannot figure out. I recently made 3 passes at Kansas City Internation Raceway which btw i was not impressed with at the least. I was running nittos d/r's which on the street i can hook with sidestepping the clutch at 4k rpms but on the track results in only spinning? Launch lower and i will only net a horrible bog.

Track Results:
1st pass
13.305@109mph with a 2.4 60 ft

So i thought by lowering my 60 foot time there would be no problem to run a 12, wrong!

2nd pass
13.36@108mph with a 2.2 60 ft

3rd pass
13.39@107mph with a 2.18 60 ft

I really have no idea whats going on my mods should be good for at least a high 12 second pass given my location. I have long tube headers, ORY, loudmouth catback, air lid, ls6 intake, ported throttle body and was running nitto d/r's. My trap speeds seem very low for my mods considering bone stock I ran a 13.5@108mph at a different track. I will be the first to admit i have very little racing experience on a legal dragstrip but countless runs on the street. I am not missing gears and am not shifting slowly it seems my problem is all in the 60ft, it would seem to me that i should hook better on a prepped course vs the street but i guess not. Everyone who i went with seems to have been running slow so i am hoping a lot of my problems are merely track conditions but please for you guys with quite a bit of track time give me some tips like burnout length, launch rpms, slipping the clutch, etc.

you would think so...stupid car haha. Why does my mph lower with a faster 60 ft? Is that all related to me bogging the launch?

You need to experiment. Make small changes and find what works for you. Write tire pressure and launch rpm on your timeslips. Note whether you spun or bogged. It may take different tires and twenty or thirty passes and but you can be consistently in the twelves. Good luck.

you should be faster than me because i ran with bald 235/55 street tires and only have 2 gears to work with, of course i'm an auto, but for only having headers and a cutout, no ls6 intake, you should (in theory atleast) be faster than me.

and i think the 60ft/trap speed correlation is that the worse your 60ft is, the more time you spend accelerating so you should trap higher, quicker 60ft = less acceleration time should mean lower trap speed, note my 60ft/trap speed...thats just my thoughts...

What psi are you running while at the track? Are you heating them up enough?

I had 30psi in the nittos at the track which is the same I run on the street and hook just fine. At the track it seemed I either hooked to hard after a long burnout or spun too much after a short burnout Hopefully my car isnt broken and its strictly my inexperience on a legal drag strip that makes me run so slow.

I drop my tire psi to around 20 at the track. Try that the next time you go to the strip. Get 'em good and warm too.

You need to go lower than even 20 psi. That's the whole point of having DR's, that you can do this for extra traction.

I ran 17 psi in mine. The car hooks like an animal.

i always heard that drag radials since they are a radial tire will tend to cup if you lower the tire pressure

They will cup if you lower the pressure too low. Even Nitto says to start at 20psi and adjust for preference. They also say not to go any lower than 15psi but some people have and prefer it that way. Ive had good luck at ~18~ psi at the track.

Thats crazy. I dont even run my nittos at 30psi on the street. The contact patch becomes too narrow for my liking.

hey pal im right there with you in a way i should be way lower then what i ran i did break into the 12's tho ( not trying to throw it in your face or anything ) but my trap speed was 114.92 and i only ran a 12.84 .. i need to work on my launch more but good luck pal ..you need to launch hard so dont reduce your lauch atleast not by a lot try heating the nittos up more i mean almost melting them

ya I just need alittle more practice at the track and I have no doubt I will run a 12. Don't feel to bad about a 12.8 @ 115mph either, my friend took his vette down to the track the same night as I did and ran 12.8 @115, damn launches are screwing us up!

**** I run my regular radials at like 24-25 on the street. I would air those bitches down a lot at the track.

For M6, stock clutch, stock tires, stock REAR-END, you guys aren't affraid of dumping the clutch at 2500-3500 rpms ? rear-end won't snap ?

I'm in the same situation. I can't break into 12s with mods in the sig....
