I would like to make my car lighter for the track. The stereo system, the pass. seat, the rear seat, the sway bars, the spare tire, AC, and the power steering have been removed. Is there something else I can tempararely remove from the car I might be forgetting?

I don't think that you will but you will be close. You got a stock air box?

Yeah I still have the stock air box I was thinking about pulling the filter for a pass or two. Do you think that it would be a good idea if there isn't a lot of dust in the air? Would it make much of a difference? A CAI is the next mod on the list.

I doubt you tell much difference without the air filter. The box design is the bad part. When I put a K&N on my LT1 car (my first mod), it was night and day difference. I'm sure on a stalled auto it would make quite a bit of difference at the track.

For a comparison my LT1 Z28 M6 went 8.26 @ 85 w/ a 1.55 60' in the 1/8(miracle run). That would barely be 12s in the 1/4. I had CAI, 52mm TB, roller rockers, LTs, no cats, LT4 KM, true duals, aluminum driveshaft and stock tune. The tune was no doubt hurting me, but I don't think that you would be making any more power to the wheels than I was. And it would take a really good 60' to run low 8s in the 1/8 and I don't know that you'd have the mph get you into the 12s.

On the other hand a friend of mine had a 95 Z28 A4 2.73 with CAI, 3000 stall, draglites and muffler removed w/ no tune. And he ran 8.3 @ 79 and 13.3 @ 98(?).

I will say 8.3@83 - 1/8 and 13.2@105 - 1/4 with a 1.72 60' in decent DA. CAI and cold weather maybe 12s.

Whats your track's elevation?

Jon

Just got back from the track. Racing the 1/8 mile. Was not able to run the 1/4 mile.

Fastest 60 foot - 1.815
fastest 330 - 5.396
fastest 1/8 - 8.432
Fastest mph - 80.84

Car ran very consistent. About where would I be in the 1/4?

I say 13.3-13.4. That time is good enough to run a 13.3 but not without 83-84 MPH.

Still 8.4 is good for the 1/8.

get a CAI on that thing. You need one.

You can make one out of PVC piping. I would go for it if you dont have the budget for it.

i think an 8.4 @ 80 would come out to something like 13.8 or so.

the ta went 8.4 @ 86 and 13.2 @ 104 i later found out why it fell off on top. but nonetheless...i don't think 8.4 @ 80 would be a 13.2 pass or anything close really.

My full bolt-on LT1 ran:
R/T - .304
60' - 1.963
330 - 5.588
1/8 - 8.596
1/8 MPH - 81.44
1000 - 11.192
1/4 - 13.375!!!
1/4 MPH - 103.46!!!

So sorry, I don't think you got it.

I cut the bottom out of my stock airbox, it definately helped.... I wouldn't pull the filter itself though.

I might be going to the track again in a few weeks. I should have a CAI on by then.
