ebay valve spring kit

For $105 bucks shipped you get dual springs good to .600" lift, hardened spring cups, chome moly retainers, and hardened locks. Any reason not to try them out? I plan on using a comp 503 cam. For the price its a heal of a deal. Just wondering if anyone has ever used them.

I'd be weary of putting that in my car where something could seriously mess up and you need absolute preciscion and strength. Ebay headers and suspension pieces on the other hand, ain't nothing to worry about.

It may be a good product, but without a proven name or proof of what it's actual specs are, I'd stay away from it. If you try it and they're what they say, then more people may buy them in confidence.

not to mention it also come with cups, locks, and retainers for 100 bucks as well. i've emailed them a couple times and say that if one breaks within a yr the will replace it for free, but they've never had a set break in the year they've been selling them.

Ok so i contacted the ebay seller regarding these springs and asked him to look at this thread and offer up what he could say about his products..and i quote from an email:

As far as the LT1 kit is concerned, it's not a new untested combo. These springs have been in use for many years in Mech. & Hyd roller cam SBC applications, it wasn't until this past two years we were able to acquire the proper retainers to work on LT1 engines. The spring itself was perfect but did not fit Lt1 retainer and spring base, in order to make it work, we needed a retainer that would produce a tall installed height as well as have enough room for those who would run self aligning rockers. All the std SBC retainers would not do the job, their installed height was too short. Finally we found a source for custom retainers and the kit was born. This kit is mostly intended for those doing a cam install w/ engine in the vehicle. It can be installed with heads on, is priced really low and is way better then the stock spring kit so it's a very attractive option.
Although I have not released it yet, we have a dual coil spring kit for LT1 also but it's still in the testing phase. The dual coil kit is for hotter applications which need more pressure. Turbo & supercharged engines as well as cams with more duration running higher RPM can benefit from our dual kit. We're still working out the details on the dual kit as it requires longer valves (+.050" or +.100") Which reminds me, we also offer special valves for LT1 in Std, +.050" and +.100". These valves are 2.00" intakes and 1.570" exhausts. We plan to offer kits which will come with + valves and dual spring kit. These valves can be installed without seat replacement, just machining the existing seats for the larger valves. Basically, serious LT1 guys can build a nice set of heads with big valves and high lift dual springs. We will also offer the machine shop service

what do you call "ok"? and even though you havent run em yet, what are your firsthand thoughts on them?

I tested within +-3lbs of that on 5 springs, which could be pressure tester variation or the springs themselves, but still very good and easily within spec for the cam. Add to that I don't have to worry as much about single spring beehives snapping and dropping a valve and I'm happy with the purchase. The retainers appear to be a kind of anodized hard steel, much better than stock. You could slap Crane or any other reputable name on these and sell them.
I can't vouch for their reliability yet because I haven't done any mileage with them, you asked for an initial review so here it is. These are made in U.S.A. springs in case the patriots are interested. If Scorpion can build rockers at a competitive price, why can't these guys do it with springs? I think they did.

**** im going to give them a shot **** it..im tryiing to blow my lt1 up anyways so if it takes my 7k rpm and 200 shot on my 152k camed long block they should last lol.
quick math with my cam i got a safety margin of .020 when installed at 1.79 before i hit coil bind..
remember when doing springs some may not know this but look at the coil bind number an add in your max lift plus .060 for your coil bind safety net and then take that from your installed height and it will give you how much room you have left.
example for my cam with the springs from ebay
1.12 coil bind + .590 lift + .060 for safety = 1.77
so then you take that from the 1.79 installed height and it gives me .02 extra of room i can play with before coil bind.So the lowest i would install these would be 1.77 after that i would run into problems
