I can see the LS7 block being much cheaper than the C5-R block mainly because it will be used in a full production car. I could see the block around $3000

Is GM even going to make an LS7 crate motor? The thing is being hand built and they can only really put out a couple thousand a year, I don't they will really make enough at the begining to sell any as crate motors. Selling the block might be a different story though.

I know that, but stoleit was talking about the contest they are having about the cost of the crate motor, and I said that the block might be a different story as far as selling them as opposed to selling a crate motor.

IIRC KaTech could build 30 a day.

30 * 365 = 10950. If those numbers are correct.

Even if they're off a few grand, 8500 a year isn't too bad, they're only going to build less than half of that worth of Z06's a year, no?

Only 222 working days in a year.

That's minus weekends and holidays.

These are union folks ya know.

Then you'd have to account for production slowdowns if any parts weren't produced or delivered.

Though its not the same engine it does give an idea of what an exotic crate engine might cost.

I'm thinking bare block will be about 3K US. Its pressed sleave and combined with it being a lower total production than the LS2 Blocks will make it a bit pricey but nothing like the C5R blocks.
