If the LS3 actually turns out to be a L92 with out AFM lifters and the L76 manifold then LG is going to be ahead of the game with the G6 line of bump sticks.

Hmmm I wonder how long until someone gets ahold of one and then has LG to a cam kit + LT's + Tune to one... and the big question will be can that combo put down 500+ to the wheels repeatedly (ie in more then one car).

I highly doubt GM is forking out the dough to design a completly new motor. I agree that it is going to be a L92 short block with the L92/L76 heads/intake. The new just means "new" to the Vette. The lighter valves will be a nice addition. I'd still buy the car for it's looks more so than the engine. Do they have a rolling chasis option?

I am dissapointed that an entirly new LS motor for the next generation corvette does not make at least 450 crank horsies!

Seems to me that the 08 Vette is still a C6, just has a motor upgrade. IMO the LS3 is EVOLUTIONARY, not REVOLUTIONARY. Its still a GEN IV LSx, not a Gen V. Kinda like the 4th-gen F-bodies going from LT1 to LS1 (ok, not the BEST example) and gettin a facelift. When the C7 corvette comes out, there will be a GEN V block under the hood. 436hp isnt unimpressive I think.

Actually, that's the accoustic shell that's goes over the L76 intake to reduce noise. The shell was mentioned in the GM '08 Vette release info.

Here's some mockup cutaway pics of the LS3 from Autoblog, and you can clearly see the shell atop of the L76 intake.

The black box is where the fuses are located..the HP upgrade is to stimulate sales on the 3 year old car...to respond to the guy who wanted a 450 HP coup and convertible..that was not going to happen..Chevy wants a good sized gap between the coup/convertible and the Z06..good biz sense ... think about it.

Sweet! It looks to me like the L92 and LS3 are very similar. The good news is my L92 just showed up yesterday! A DOD removal and cam/spring/lifter/pushrod/headgasket/fasteners upgrade, Swap out the truck intake for the L76 car version, and upgrade to the hollow/sodium valves (when available) and I have a cammed LS3!
