Default Run no 2nd ring

Anyone ever hear of only runing just a top ring in a Max Effort 346 to reduce drag? im thinking u whould have to have a very small gap to keep it from loosing comp

The 2nd ring isn't really a compression ring, mainly just an oil scraper. The problem would be oil control and balancing out the tension in the rings to compensate for 1 less ring, while gaining something from the decrease in friction that losing the 2nd ring gives. It's a delicate balancing act for big money race teams (Formula 1 for example). Not really for "Joe the Pumber," building an engine in his garage.

Sorry for the week-old thread bump, but does the ring really cause enough friction to have noticeable gains from not having it?
