big snout vs small snout?

Can someone explain why some racing cranks have a big block snout on a LS crank? What is the advantage to that? Can is still be setup normally? I'm also wondering can a R07 crank fit into a Ls3 block since the R07 is based on the LSx blocks? All of the main journal, rod journal sizes match up but I'm not sure about everything else.

it has to do with wet sump and dry sump i think but don't quote me on it

High RPM longevity is why the big snout. It is just stronger.

RO7 crank won't fit, bore spacing different.

The bigger the Snout the more stout! This set up first became popular with small block cranks, and has now gained popularity in the LS world. With the gains in power and the added force to the snout, the thicker post is needed for durability. -Adam @ Callies
