Default Worth welding chambers

I have a set of 317 heads and only want to run them if I can weld the chambers then mill the minimum just to true them up. These heads will be ported and put on a 5.3 Single turbo setup, with a set of ls9 head gaskets on 92-93 octane. I know there are other head options out there, but I could get them welded and milled for probably half the cost of better stock heads that are used. The questions I have are...

Where to weld in the chamber?
How much will the head distort if done by a highly experienced welder?
How many cc of weld should be put in the chamber ?

I was thinking of welding between the deck and plug hole with a total of 4cc welding material which should close the chamber down to 66cc. Then milling a little .007-.014 will lower it down to 63-64cc if all goes well.

All inputs are appreciated.

After talking to a machine shop that knows heads, he said just mill them down as I will not see any difference being a street car 99% of the time. He also said the minimal amount of valve shroud won't effect the performance I am looking for. Now if I were to make this a drag only engine where every .001 counts then that's a different story.

Talk to AI about it. They are able to weld and cnc the chambers if you wanted but at the very leasst they can give you some good recommendations.

Ai did my heads, I had them weld and port my 317s. Can't tell it was done and I retain my stock ptv. If you mill them to the same level you'll lose massive ptv.
