Default l59 suggestions hp inrease

Hey guys! New on the forum and im from sweden. Hopefully you will understand me anyway lol. So ive just brought home a old truck with an L59 and 4l60e with a shift kit both from a 2003 Tahoe. Wanna make somewhere around 400whp, Turbo and superchargers sadly aint allowed here =/ In sweden these motors arent that popular so im asking u guys since ur the kings of LS hehe. So like som sort of shopping list would be awesome! Thanks! /Robin

With a 5.3, 400 whp is a bunch if you want reasonable drive-ability. My thoughts for minimums (I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will chime in):
  • a big cam with new lifters and pushrods
  • big heads (243's) that have been CNC'd with valve job.. good rockers, good springs, new trunnions
  • take it up to 3.89 bore... or start with a higher cube block (5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 6.2 all have progressively larger bores with the same stroke)
  • more compression: deck the heads or grab some 4.8 pistons
  • get a good intake, injectors, fuel rail and larger throttle body, cold air intake
  • long tube headers and free flowing exhaust
Your bottom end should be fine but it never hurts to tighten things up if you're serious about that level of HPs.

Do you need to pass emissions tests?

Thanks man. Need to keep this on a fairly tight budget so the 400whp might be a long shot lol.

Long tube headers or the cam will not perform
