Little change of subject......having to with more bore. Steve at RED told me he has sleeved iron blocks many times....that its the ultimate in strength. If he installed the new Darton sleeves....how big of a bore can those sleeves go and still have good cylinder wall thickness for reliability and a rebuild?

Thats what I'm thinking.....if that leaves enough wall thickness for a 250-300 progressive shot.

But where to go from there for a rebuild down the road?

I'm talking about an LSX iron block.......
What my dart block should have been.
Next build it will

Yeah but I'll do 4.185 to keep a rebuild in the tank

Steve at RED told me that 4.185 is as far as I can go safely. And we all know that bigger slugs get heavy...

But also a LOT of weight is taken away from the block to get the sleeves in the block. Might be the same weight after sleeving....or just a little heavier.

But I thought the newer Darton sleeves allow larger bores than just the cylinders in the block would allow.....no...?

Im referring to recipricating weight. Mass that has to come to a dead stop at the top and bottom of the stroke.
Id just about bet on the block weight being greater after the sleeving.
Not sure what your asking, regarding your question.

Oh....my bad....when you said “slugs” you meant a larger and heavier piston.

My question was referring to bore size in the LSX block.....compared to bore size in the Darton sleeves. Can’t a larger bore be done in those sleeves and still be safe and reliable....then going the same size in just the blocks cylinders?

im talking about sleeving the LSX block. Steve at RED said that would make the ultimate set up.

Gotcha. On a 4.4” bore spacing, you can only go so big. Too bad they don’t make square pistons.

I'm at 4.125 bore now, I'd think the bore size would make up for the added weight of pistons
