My ADVICE is the find ways the reduce valve train inertia.
Remember the valve train needs to be accelerated.
A lite valve well reduce required forces, spring pressure requirement and allow the engine to "spin up" faster.
100% this ^^

I have seen guys take over a pound and a half out of their valvetrain with springs and locks, no cam change, rev out 400 rpm higher. Motors were quite snappy

sure, the problem being that you need sturdier pushrods most of the time.

Which is why when I build a valvetrain I use the beefiest rods I can fit. I worry about weight on the valve side, not the lifter side. In my mind it's the heavy side and the light side

Hi Darth I too agree and add that a pushrod can be made with tubing that has a larger center diameter than each end's diameter.

The only issue with that is, the head must be lowered over them if the center diameter is larger than the pushrod holes in the head.
