Heard of gas porting pistons before, I understood it as being used for low tension rings and helping seal.

Seems this is more like softening than real porting.

Me too. As soon as he mentioned "DV" I thought I'd be better off watching "DV"'s videos instead....

We did that on NHRA stocker engines 60 yrs ago.
We did it 2 ways:
1. From the side, as the rules required no visible mods.
2. From the top when the rule didn't apply.
Did it work? Some say yes, others no.
New ring technology has passed this by.

I was watching a video where Tony Angelo was removing the head from his 406 SB2 Nascar engine in his 55 Chevy. There were small holes around the outer portion of the piston. I'm guessing that reduces the amount of gasses trapped behind the rings.

It actually was supposed to allow some amount of combustion gasses through to push the ring into the cylinder wall for sealing. Okay in a race application, clogged in a few miles in a street application.

Exactly. I know multiple shops that soften the valve pockets as well.

Gas ports. It’s been done for many years now. I’ve done it on street engines in the past, but as mentioned, gas ported piston rings is the best of both worlds. I’ve worked with the tech and it’s definitely got its advantages.

I like the look of JE's relatively new perimeter gas ports. I had good luck with the gas ported rings too.

A patent is virtually worthless. When your patent gets compromised….not if…you’ll spend your life savings in courts fighting. I have conversations often with guys in the industry about patents, because we all have a great idea for an invention….we all say the same thing to each other and are in agreement. It’s going to get copied eventually.

I honestly don't know who can watch past a couple of minutes into one of that tard's videos. He's swinging from DV's nuts without even understanding the original source material.

It was bad. I don’t watch much of anything like that honestly. I tried watching a Holdener video several years ago….nope.
