Default bearing damage ?s

OK if I have "Radius Ride" then that means that the crank journal might be tapered. What else could it mean? desbris contamination?
If I have "Overlay wiped out" what would that mean? desbris contamination? maybe lack of oil?

Are the bearings supposed to seal somehow? Is that why you are not supposed to scratch them so they will seal and keep oil inside?

I need as much 411 as I can get!
thanks

If you had bearing damage and someone told you you were "running on the radius" it means several different things. First you need to understand that aftermarket cranks have radius's on every corner of the rod and main pins this is one thing that makes them stronger an less likley to break (whole other thread why this is not true). When using a crank of this nature you have special bearings that one side is chamfered. The bearing has a upper and lower half to them and must be installed with this chamfer towards the radius of the crank to give it clearance. Some cranks have such a large radius that the rods require a chamfer as well. Most popular companies put this in there rods and they must be turned in the motor with the chamfer facing the radius as well for clearance. I will tell you if your green on this subject and you had ethier rod in backwards the motor would be very hard to turn and the rods would not be able to thurst. If the bearings are not in correct it always goes undected and makes for debris contamation. When you talk does the bearing have to seal, your thinking right that the clearance it has gives it the seal it needs to hold the oil in the bearing to lubricate and then be released for fresh oil to enter. In simple terms to much bearing clearance makes for an internal leak and does not lubricate properly. The oil just runs through the bearings and is not held in, normally seen with poor oil pressure when engine is hot and oil is hot.
