Building a 402 or 382 - clearance issues???

Default Building a 402 or 382 - clearance issues???

Assembled a couple 347ci LSx motors - thinking of doing a 382 or 402 motor this winter. Wondering what if any has to be clearnaced for 6.125" rods.

Have assembled 383 SBC motors and quite a bit of clearancing had to be done on them - anything similar to that? Just wondering before I make the final decision.

You will have to clearance for the rod throws just like you do on a Gen 1 or Gen 2 SBC.

In the same areas? Bottom of cylinders and oil pan rails? The crank sits afully deep in the block wasn't sure if the insides of the skirts needed material removed?

Depending on the rods you are using you shouldn't have to hit the front (inboard) side of the bores. The outward (pan rail) side of the bore will need a small amount of clearancing which I'm sure you will see when you mock it up.

So on a H-beam style rod like a Compstar you would have to clearance more correct? Anything on the lower end aside from spacing the windage tray?

I built a 402 LS2 a while back with eagle rods and all that needed clearancing was the bottom of the cylinders.

nothing on my 402 needs clearancing. everything swings just fine. eagle crank, howard's billet rods and wiseco pistons here.
