Default K&N 15 x 7 F-Body Filter Flow?

With all these high flow heads, intakes and larger TB’s coming out what is going to be the bottle neck restriction to flow now?

The MAF?

The Air Filter?

What can a K&N 15 x 7 stock size F-Body Filter Flow?

Not the air filter (unless it's really dirty). We've done lots of dyno pulls with and without the air filter. If it's clean, it's not the choke point. The lid is not a restriction at this point either. If running a stock FAST intake, the runners are the choke point. If it's ported, the TB becomes the choke point. If it's a 90mm, then the MAF becomes the choke point. If you have a 85mm MAF, then it's a toss-up between that and the 90mm TB. The transition from the lid to the TB needs to be smooth.

Is this all testing from your 225's, or on LS6's, or LS1's?

On the topic of K&N filters, I remember this post a while back.

http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/por...4959457-1.html

http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/por...4948180-1.html

"I worked for race teams for years. One Toyota Atlantic teem I worked on the driver thought the car was lossing power from the start of a race to the end. So we did leak down checks when we got new engines in. 3% leak down- New. At the end of a race we checked it again and we got 29% leak down. So we sent the head to get the valves done and checked the leak down when the head returned. 4%- Leak down. At the end of the next race 31%- leak down. So we put three dabs of grease down streem of the air filter. "K&N" The next engine came in with 3%-leak down new. And at the end of the race 32%- leak down and the dabs of greas were full of grit. So we changed the filter to a oiled fome filter. 3%- leak down new and at the end of the next race? 18%-leak down. Better still not good. So we made a new air box and used a Mustang GT stock air filter. 3%-leak down new at the end of the next race? 1%- leak down yes I said "1%". The rings bed in and the engine seals up. We went from changing a engine at 300 miles with 29 to 34% leak down to. Changing the engine at 800 miles with 7% leak down."

Sounds like a problem with the filter sealing, not the actual filter.

Someone did a filtration test a while back that showed how poorly the K&N's filtered. I'd believe it to an extent.

If thats the case then all the engines in the cars with K&N filters on them should last 5K miles tops.

Why doesnt someone do a flowbench test?

simple, youll find out the pressure drop vs flow curve and go from there..
