Technical info on rotary valves?
Anyone here have any insight into the issues that are preventing rotary valvetrains from becoming more prevalent in the market?
Most of the marketing out there by companies like Coates seem to indicate that the biggest issues (sealing, lubrication) have been solved.
Obviously a $15,000+ valve train would not make much sense if you could not make a reliable 10,000+rpm. Coates apparently had a Ford 5.0 motor run to 14K but for how long?
Costs would likely be even higher considering a decent FI or ITB setup would help get air in at those high rpms.

I think Coates got slammed for fraud and sued for some outrageous sum of money after having cheated a lot of people. Thats probably why his business is still floundering. I'll try and dig up the article.
Found one although it's dated for 1994-95 http://sec.edgar-online.com/1997/11/...3/Section4.asp
