That Cadillac setup looks so simple...I guess things are easier when you can cast a boss in the block. I didn't realize they did that on the stock STS-V engine.

I have heard that some Asian motors have shallow slots in the sides of the connecting rods and bearings. Oil pressure squirts out onto the piston pins.

oil squirters are in quite a few engines from the factory and they work period. i know i know, but most of the high performance honda engines have them, while the more mundane ones dont. ex: if you speak honda a ls block(1.8l dohc) does not have them, while a gsr block (also 1.8l dohc but with vtec) has them. externally they are almost identical. all the parts are interchangeable so they are almost identical inside also. but the point is the ls revs to like 6900-7100 depending on year, while the gsr is about 8200. so yes oil squirters can make it more reliable at higher rpms. the bottom line is that they help, but the key to higher rpm stability is to get the best rod to stroke ratio, to keep the piston speed from getting dangerous. in my opinion they will help your turbo engine if your not going to higher rpms, but there are less expensive, more effective solutions. just my .02

They help on a boosted LS engine also, and I think you will see them become more common soon. They are most helpful in high hp, long duration load engines that need long durability as well as power.

Like swearitsstock mentioned, the 2jzgte has oil squirters. Someone else mentioned Hot Rod magazine and an article about the northstar. I have another Hot Rod issue sitting in front of me that discusses stroking/sleeving one of the new 6.1 Hemis to 426ci. Becuase they use a stroker crank the squirters must be reworked. Perhaps this could shed some light to using oil squirters in a modern OHV engine? I'll see if I can scan the picture when I'm home in a few days.

The Japanese use piston oil squirters on a lot of the high performance sport bikes, but I still think of it as a last ditch effort when all other means of temperature control are already maxed out. It would be truly interesting to see actual lab data on the real benefit.
