hydrogen

hydrogen as a fuel has been done and is a very years around the corner just not in normal engines. Hydrogen fuel cells will be the nect big thing, just maybe not as we know of them now. they are fantastic things but as said before the storgage of hydrogen is difficult as it leaks out of everything! lol
one way to comabat this in fuel sells is to use an acid (BMW are working on this) insteead of raw hydrogen. this dose generate some toxins though!
also i hear its quite are to make hydrogen. you have to either do it chemically (by products are too nice!!) or by splitting water (takes ALOT of energy!!). maybe by using wind farms, dams, solar or thermal energy to produce the power initaialy needed would work.
if you want more on this take a look at the Honda Hydrogen fuel sell stuff. also i think ford where working on it and BMW are comoing out with something similar but not using hydrogen.
thanks Chris.
They showed a cross section of the tank designed to hold the horrific gas and it was a very thick AL tank covered by carbon fibre. The tank was rated for 11,000 PSI where most cylinders are normally 3K psi. That's 800 bar for you engineering folks. The company was DCX. The car was a production A-class car.
I read about DCX's measures to protect the public and it looks like a good system. Pressure monitoring and circulating fans help solve many issues. Alot of R+D time went into the lines and seals. I think it is safe!
