I was wondering what would be the advantages to adding Methanol to 93 octain gas?
I know the FI guys inject it to cool there charge dramatically.
I emailed my old Chem. teacher and he said that it could possible produce more power, but this is a guy who doesn't know much about car engines.
Anyideas?

The methanol will make it more knock retardant and slow the flame propagation across the combustion chamber. Should also require more fuel depending on your mixture. Lower heat of vaporization means you should have cooler intake charge temps. I'm sure if it made more power on an engine that didn't require it people would have been doing this 40 years ago.
