Default Scalloped brakes!

Can't say there will be much of a discussion but thought someone might enjoy checking these out!

I found these when looking through a circle track magazine and thought they were really cool looking.

In the magazine they had some that looked like a ninja star, too.

That actually may warrant discussion. My first thought was "what a gimmick", because the smaller friction surface would offset any possible gains in cooling. However, isn't that tradeoff exactly what you get with cross-drilling and slotting? It makes me wonder exactly where the cut-off point is between cooling and loss of braking surface. You have to love how something as simple as a marketing gimmick can actually complicate itself quickly.

Pretty interesting stuff going on here. We started doing it when I was in Formula SAE for a few reasons, its lighter than a standard rotor, doesn't need slotting or drilling to increase surface area. You will lose some "wipe" area, pad PSI kinda makes up for it. Since it physically has less mass YES you will heat them up sooner, fine most race pads don't work cold anyways. They also dissipate heat much faster. Pretty good for short tracks, autocross, and circle tracks but I wouldn't use it in a street car and drag race brakes already have much lighter rotors.
