Default Help with comp. ratio

whats up guys, i think im doing my comp. ratio right, everything im coming out with is giving me 11.22:1 SCR. im using the simple method

total volume
---------------------------
combustion chamber volume

im using stock bore and stroke with GM MLS gaskets. i think they are .051 thats what im using for my calculations and im using Mahle pistons with 4cc valve releifs, TSP PRC 5.3 STG. 2.5 milled to 58cc. someone with some more experience want to help me cause if im right, im going to run a thinner gasket to get it up to 11.5-11.8. not sure if it matters, but im running a MS4 cam

Assuming that the Mahle pistons have the same compression height as the stock pistons and still using stock rods (puts it .006 above the deck) and using a GM MLS gasket (I used .053 compressed thickness x 3.97), I got 10.9 CR. Using a Cometic 3.910x .045 gasket, I got 11.17 CR.

sorry, its the stock block, rods and crank. the only thing im changing is the heads, pistons and cam. also all the other neccessary stuff for a heads/cam swap. just let me know if there are any other specs you need.

from the looks of it, im going to have to go with the pistons with the 2cc vavle reliefs, rather than the 4cc. should still have enough room to clear the MS4.

here are the specs from summit racings website

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...4&autoview=sku

any suggestions to get my comp ratio up to 11.5 or so?

To get 11.5, you would need one of the following (All other variables constant) with a .040, 3.910 head gasket:

1. 2.83 cc valve reliefs
or
2. Mill the heads to 56.83cc's

With a .040, 3.910 gasket and 1cc valve reliefs it gets you 11.79. Assuming you have enough PTV clearance.

It's also worth noting these 1cc Mahle's come with 1/16,1/16,3/16 rings instead of 1.5,1.5,3.0mm.

A little more friction, a little heavier, and greater chance of ring flutter at high RPM but not enough to worry about for a street car.

This calculation is based on the 5.7L GM MLS dimensions.
